About the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Scholars-in-Residence Program

UBC Library’s vision is leading and partnering with the University and communities in the creation, stewardship, exploration and discovery of knowledge that values openness, belonging, connection, and curiosity.   The EDI Scholar-in-Residence program shares the values and initiatives at UBC Library and IKBLC and will take place in the Antonio and Marissa Peña Learning and Events Room which hosts unique learning opportunities open to all faculty, students, and staff.

Eligiblity

The Scholar-in-Residence program is open to scholars who hold degrees in any discipline.  Residency at UBC’s Irving K. Barber Learning Centre allows Scholars to participate in collaborative and interdisciplinary public programming with a clear impact on equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI). The Scholar will have an established record of research or activities related to EDI. Applications from academic, governmental, policy, and arts sectors are invited.

Term

Residencies are for two academic terms.

Benefits and Responsibilities

Scholars are provided with space in the Peña Learning and Events Room. Scholars agree to give at least one public lecture during their time on campus and to make themselves available for formal and informal conversations and consultations with faculty, students, and staff. Such engagement serves to benefit both the scholar, who is able to access the many resources available on campus, and the University community, which comes to share in the scholar’s insights. They enjoy full access to the scholarly resources of the University Library.

Scholars must acknowledge the support of the Peña Fund and UBC Library in any publication or presentation of the research they undertake during the period of the residency.

Finances

Scholars will receive an honorarium per residency. Employee benefits are not provided.

Application

Scholars may be nominated or apply directly. In either case, a complete application must include:

  • Curriculum vitae
  • The proposal from the applicant (i) describes the proposed lecture topic, (ii) explains the nature and significance of the public program, (iii) details the impact on equity, diversity, and inclusion
